Applies a variety of paint finishes to medium/large manufactured parts. May be required to remove and recycle debris. Attention is required to prevent damage to operator, product or equipment during activity. May make necessary minor adjustments to ensure satisfactory production. Inspects work visually for obvious defects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to adhering to the policies of the company outlined in the PGM Employee Handbook, an individual serving in the capacity of Spray Painter shall be consistently able to:

Works from blueprints, process sheets, detailed sketches, and written and verbal instructions to paint a wide variety of metal assemblies and parts where tolerances are measured in terms of thickness and are moderately difficult to meet.
Checks finish, quantity and color requirements to ensure conformance with military specifications. Selects proper method, equipment and tools to complete task.
Checks masking and prepares surfaces by hand sanding or by using various solvents. Mixes epoxies and solvents to appropriate ratios by weight, volume or viscosity using scales and measures and performing basic calculations.
Mixes and applies a wide variety of paint finishes such as enamels, lacquer, duco and wrinkle to specified colors, consistencies and viscosities for original and touch-up re-work. Determines drying times according to process sheets and specifications.
Dries, cures and bakes special and unusual finishes in conformance to military specifications.
Regulates spray gun and ventilates spray booth according to temperature and humidity requirements.
May utilize a silk-screening method transferring images from screen to metal using various techniques and a variety of mixed inks. Pays close attention to controlling atmospheric impact to ensure quality graphics transfer.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Understand basic Vantage system for time reporting purposes.
Understand basic SPC for data collection and analysis.
Understand how to use elementary statistical tools for problem identification and analysis.
Assist other department operators when required or directed.
Perform any other assigned duties in accordance with instruction provided by the supervisor.
